Ten minutes faster, without breaking

Second marathon completed in 4h27m moving time at 6:16/km, improving the previous marathon by approximately 10 minutes. The race stayed controlled through roughly km 30–35, with no cramps, muscular pain or meaningful walking.

The main fade appeared from km 35 to 41, as pace moved into the 6:30–6:54/km range while heart rate remained high. Heat, direct sun, accumulated fatigue and a monotonous section with fewer spectators likely contributed, but this was a progressive slowdown rather than a complete marathon wall.

Fueling worked well: Zummy at km 5, 12.5, 20 and 30, plus half at 37.5; Pro Salt at 10, 20 and 30; caffeine at 25; water throughout and two cups of Gatorade. The final salt dose at km 40 was missed, with no cramps or gastrointestinal issues.

Takeaway. The marathon confirmed that the current fueling strategy is reliable and that endurance held well beyond 30 km. Recovery now takes priority; there is nothing to gain from forcing pace or volume immediately after the race.

Next step. Post-marathon recovery. A very easy recovery session to restore movement and assess how the legs respond 48 hours after the marathon.
