Economy session completed with consistent strides and controlled aerobic load

Thursday served its intended role as the lower-load session between Tuesday's threshold work and Sunday's long run. Despite humid, drizzly conditions making the run feel subjectively heavy, the athlete clarified that the heaviness was primarily environmental rather than muscular.

The six 20-second strides were executed consistently, at approximately 4:13, 4:34, 4:19, 4:15, 4:15 and 4:10 /km. This is an appropriate pattern for neuromuscular economy work: fast but controlled accelerations with no progressive deterioration or attempt to turn them into maximal sprints.

The initial 15-minute easy segment averaged approximately 6:42 /km with about 137 bpm. The programmed 20-minute easy aerobic segment following the strides averaged approximately 6:34 /km with about 149 bpm. The similar pace targets before and after the strides were intentional, although the latter should be described as easy aerobic running rather than as an extended warm-up.

After the programmed 47-minute workout ended, the athlete continued running for approximately another 12 minutes 40 seconds at roughly 6:31 /km while returning home. This additional running remained aerobic and brought the complete session to 8.9 km and approximately 58 minutes of moving time.

No recovery signal from this session requires reducing Sunday's planned endurance work. The next progression should introduce a modest steady finish within the long run rather than adding another high-intensity workout.

Takeaway. Friday may include normal gym work without excessive leg fatigue. Saturday remains a running rest day. Sunday should progress the long run by adding a controlled 15-minute steady segment after one hour of aerobic running. Keep the steady segment clearly below threshold intensity.

Next step. Long Run + Steady Finish. Develop endurance and the ability to sustain a moderately faster pace after accumulated aerobic running.
